100 Young Asian Footballers @ The Sports Hub

More than 100 young Asian footballers impressed the talent spotters on Saturday [31 October] at the first of a series of special identification days.  The search for a ‘Birmingham Star’ is being led by The Football Association [FA] in partnership with Birmingham City FC, Birmingham County FA, Chelsea FC and Continental Star FC. The event forms part of The FA’s Bringing Opportunities to Communities initiative to help increase Asian inclusion in grassroots football. This free event saw youngsters taking part in coaching sessions and small sided games under the watchful eyes of judges Steve Brown, The FA’s Head of Talent ID, and Birmingham City Recruitment Manager Carl McNally. One winner was chosen from four under-age categories [nine, 10, 11 and 12] and received a minimum six-week trial at Birmingham City’s Academy as well as an invitation to an England senior men’s international at Wembley Stadium as guests of The FA. Lincoln Moses, MBE, outside the HUB A COMMUNITY sports hub, hailed as a sporting blueprint, has been honoured with the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, the highest award a voluntary group can receive in the UK.The groundbreaking Holford Drive Community Sports HUB in Birmingham scooped the top honour for attracting between 600 and 800 young people a week to its sports base in Perry Barr. The major leisure centre is run by four clubs that focus on four core sports: Aston Boxing Club, Holford Drive Tennis Club, Continental Star Football Club and Continental Star Cricket Club.
